In classic recommendations, calculation of the "current price" uses a standard assumption of 24 hours per day and 30 days per month. In this approach, it assumes that the instance is running continuously, which may not accurately reflect the actual usage pattern of the instance. This method is less precise because it does not consider variations in usage.
The new recommendations, calculations use the "current price" based on the actual current usage hours of the instance. In other words, it considers how many hours the instance has been running and uses that information to calculate the cost. This approach is more granular and accurate because it takes into account the specific usage pattern of the instance.Let's consider an EC2 instance with the following characteristics:
- Instance Type: t2.micro
- Hourly On-Demand Price (as of the current date): $0.012 per hour
- Usage Hours:For the New EC2 Rightsizing Recommendation: 100 hours in the current month
- For the Old EC2 Rightsizing Recommendation (Classic): Assumed to run 24/7, which is 720 hours in a 30-day month
